Description

San Francisco Heritage presents our 4th annual Victorian Valentine Ball on Friday, February 14, 2020.

We invite you to step back in time and attend a formal ball at the historic Haas-Lilienthal House on Valentine's Day, with an emphasis on the late 19th century approach to love, courtship, social etiquette, entertainment, dress and music. Take a break from the modern world and immerse yourself in an evening from the perspective of someone living in the Victorian age.

Learn to dance the 19th-century form of the waltz in our beautiful Ballroom with instructors from the SF Waltzing Society, and play Victorian trivia games for exciting prizes!

Recommended dress/costume: late Victorian formal wear/evening wear. If you plan to dance, wear shoes with low heels and leather soles, if possible.

Tickets: $55/single; $95/couple — ticket price includes a buffet of delectable finger foods plus candy and desserts, and a cash bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. 18+ to attend; 21+ to drink.

Our Cause: Proceeds benefit the continued maintenance and stewardship of the Haas-Lilienthal House under the direction of San Francisco Heritage.

Bar proceeds will help support a variety of Heritage education programs including the award-winning Heritage Hikes program for third-graders and their teachers.

Location: The Haas-Lilienthal House, a spectacular Queen Anne style home and historic house museum built in 1886. Both a City Landmark (#69) and National Treasure, the H-L House is located at 2007 Franklin St. between Washington and Jackson Streets in San Francisco.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

18+ to attend; 21+ to drink. We will card everyone during check-in/door entrance.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking in the area is very limited – generally to 2-hour street parking only, so we recommend carpooling and public transportation if possible. The Haas-Lilienthal House does not have public parking spaces. If you do drive in, there is a parking lot nearby on Jackson Street between Van Ness and Polk Street. (2 blocks away). Also, we are located 1-2 blocks from a Muni stop. The closest stops are at Jackson and Van Ness (47, 49,) and at Franklin and Clay or Sacramento (1).

BUS: We are near Muni bus lines: 1, 10, 12, 19, 27, 47 & 49.

BART: If you are taking BART, exit at the Civic Center station and either take a cab or rideshare to the Haas-Lilienthal House, or walk down Grove or McAllister through the Civic Center area to Van Ness Avenue, and catch virtually any northbound bus (the near side of the street as you reach Van Ness.) Get off at Jackson, and walk one block west to Franklin – the HLH will be in the middle of the block on the west side.

CABLE CAR: We are 4 blocks from the end of the California Street Cable Car line, which ends at California & Van Ness. If you take BART from the East Bay, you can hop onto the Cable Car at the other end of the line, at Drumm & California Streets, just out of the Embarcadero BART station. In 12-15 minutes, you’ll be at Van Ness. From the end of the line, you will need to walk 1 block west, and 3 blocks north (1 block uphill, the rest is pretty flat).
